Dr. Laura Laxton with Wilford on Estero Magazine May 2017 cover

In the article, Dr. Laxton offers some great tips on how you can create a stress free traveling experience for you and your pet. “Pets are close to the emotional level of a two-year old, a change in their routine can be very stressful,” explains Dr. Laxton.  Owners need to be aware that stress immediately occurs when they remove their pet from their home and normal routine. Dr. Laxton goes on to explain on how you can create a safe traveling experience depending on your method of travel.  “It’s important to check the policies for larger animals who have to fly in the cargo hold. Book a direct flight if possible, and travel only when temperatures are not too hot or cold. If you decide to travel by car, enthusiastic pets can distract drivers and cause accidents. There are a variety of restraints available, including pet seat belts, vehicle pet barriers and pet car seats.” Dr. Laxton also offers advice if choosing a boarding facility or bringing your pet along for the travel is the healthiest choice.
