At Pets First Animal Hospital it is required that your pet is placed under general anesthesia during a procedure. The reason is to allow our veterinarian and vet techs to safely conduct surgery while your pet is safely asleep. Also, the anesthesia will help reduce the amount of pain your pet has to endure.
Before Your Pets Goes Under General Anesthesia
We prepare your pet before going under anesthesia by performing several different medical tests. This will ensure that your pet can safely handle anesthesia. We perform a blood test and a complete physical examination to make sure there are no underlying medical conditions. The vet will give your pet the green light to administer the general anesthesia intravenously. The vet will also place a breathing tube. The tube will help your pet get oxygen. To keep your pet completely sedated, we also administer gas anesthesia via the breathing tube.
